you actually could have pre ordered 2042, played 12 hours on launch day, realized it was poo, and still gotten a refund. so pre ordering battlefield 2042 would only have been a bad thing if you didn't cancel or refund your pre order when we all realized it was bad when the beta launched. origin also has a refund policy where you can refund the game 24 hours after you launch it regardless of play time which, imo, is actually better than steam's refund policy. Origin also has a "cancel anytime before release" pre order policy.
